For decades, this architectural gem bore the weighty task of defending the city and its people. Its limestone walls carried that burden with pride, but the duty it was built for had long since become obsolete. Our proposal, A Joyful Transformation of Torre Rinalda, served as a conceptual entry for the Reuse Italy competition. In reimagining the future of Torre Rinalda, our design sought to honor its historical significance while guiding it into a new chapter—one filled with leisure and joy on the Italian beachfront.

Torre Rinalda now stood as a silent tower by the sea. Our proposal was, in many ways, a retirement gift—or better yet, a heartfelt thank you—to the tower. We reimagined the tower not as a relic of defense, but as a playful landmark woven into the fabric of the beach. To complete the structure, we introduced a lightweight, see-through metal mesh inspired by fishing nets. This playful pink addition gave the tower the feel of a giant sandcastle. Inside, a staircase led to the original terrace, now surrounded by a sea of a thousand pink plastic balls for children to enjoy. Midway up, a knitted hammock invited visitors to lie beneath the skylight and simply watch the clouds—or the stars—drift by.
